Ryan joined the News 8 Sports team as Weekend Anchor/Weekday Reporter in July 2009. Before that he worked as a News Reporter for WTVY-TV in Dothan, AL for about two years.
Sports were never far from Ryan’s heart or his home growing up. He was born Milwaukee, and lived just a couple of miles away from the old home of the Brewers, Milwaukee County Stadium. In 1996 Ryan moved to Green Bay, the same year the Packers won Super Bowl XXXI. After the win, Ryan made his TV debut alongside classmates on the lawn of Vincent T. Lombardi Middle School proclaiming "Good Morning America!"
Ryan went on to attend the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee where he graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Journalism and Mass Communication, with an emphasis in Broadcast. Ryan credits his time at UWM and "PantherVision" for realizing his passion for telling great stories. He always felt combining that with his love of sports would be the perfect job.
When Ryan arrived at News 8, he realized he was right.
Favorite movie: I am really bad at picking favorites. Ones that come to mind right away: The Blind Side, Major League, Anchorman, or just about anything with Will Smith
My best day at News 8 was the day... I got to interview Paul Molitor and Robin Yount 1-on-1 (or 1-on-2 I guess) Not only are they Milwaukee Brewers legends, but Major League Baseball Hall of Famers that I grew up admiring.
Do you have a personal motto or quote that inspires you? "Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail." – Ralph Waldo Emerson
If you could interview one person, living or deceased, who would that be? Once again I am bad at picking “one” but Vince Lombardi, Jackie Robinson, Babe Ruth come to mind as legendary sports figures I would like to chat with.
Favorite way to spend a day off? Spending time with my soon to be lovely wife Aleana, or on the field with my not-so lovely softball team.
What sports team are you a big fan of? I love the Green Bay Packers, but baseball has always been my first love. For better or worse I’m a die-hard Milwaukee Brewers fan.
What are you bad at and wish you could do better? Directions. Wait, where am I?
What do you like about your job? Every day is something different. One day I am covering the Packers in the NFC Championship game against the Bears, and the other I am telling the inspiring story of a local high school athlete. I enjoy both equally. I also love writing, and getting to express my creativity in storytelling.
