Jenna Troum joined News 8 as a reporter in July 2011. Her first year on the job, she won an Associated Press Award for Best Enterprise Reporting. Her winning series "Fighting Through the Fear" gave viewers an inside look at a self defense class that trains women how to fight off a rapist.

Jenna is originally from Orlando, FL, so the winters were a big shock when she got her undergraduate degree from Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill. She graduated summa cum laude from NU’s Medill School of Journalism with a degree in Broadcast Journalism and a concentration in Political Science.

During her time at Northwestern, Jenna did a journalism residency at KSNT 27 News/KTMJ FOX 43 in Topeka, KS where she reported live on-air every day. At Northwestern, Jenna was a freelance online video journalist for "The Daily Northwestern Online." She's a major political junkie, so she couldn't pass up the opportunity to intern with CNN's "The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer" during the summer of 2010. Other internships have included CBS 2 News (WBBM) in Chicago, a political strategy group, and WESH 2 News in Orlando, FL. Jenna co-hosted a weekly talk radio show on 89.3 FM WNUR for three years.

Do you have a personal motto or quote that inspires you?
Don't be afraid to ask for what you want. You'll usually get it.

If you could interview one person, living or deceased, who would that be?
Oscar Wilde.

What do you like about your job?
I love that I have a job where I get to go out into the community every day and meet people I would never have met, see things I would never have seen, go places I never would have gone, and do things I never would have done. I learn new things every day. I get to show people what's going on in their community and how it's going to affect them. I am genuinely fascinated by people. I'm fascinated by who they are, what they do, and why they do it.

Favorite way to spend a day off?
On my days off you can find me exploring new places, working out, and cooking. I also really love theater.

Favorite movie?
"The Birdcage." No matter how many times I watch it, it never gets old.

Favorite food?
There is no way I could pick just one. Food is my number one hobby. Favorites include pumpkin pie, chocolate, sushi, peanut butter, and anything barbecued. I'm also addicted to hot beverages. Coffee, tea, hot chocolate, hot cider—you name it, I love it.

What are you bad at and wish you could do better?
Navigation. I get lost literally everywhere I go. It's really embarrassing.

Pizza. Sausage, pepperoni or everything on it?
Chicago-style deep dish with spinach and pepperoni.
