Xcel Energy restores power to thousands of residents after storm
Xcel Energy crews restored power to about half of the customers in Wisconsin and southeastern Minnesota, affected by an outage from a snow storm.
As of late Thursday afternoon, about 13,000 Xcel Energy customers in Wisconsin were without power. Xcel Energy says the areas most impacted by the storm include, Menomonie, Spring Valley, Hudson, Amery, Birchwood and Hayward.
Including customers in southeastern Minnesota, about 54,000 people were without power due to the snow storm that swept through the area.
Xcel Energy says there are still reports of downed wires and broken trees in some snow-covered because of the storm. If you see a downed wire, Xcel says you should assume it's energized and dangerous. If you come across a downed wire, you should leave the area and contact Xcel Energy at (800) 895-1999.
Xcel says their crews hope to be able to restore service to all of its customers by Thursday night, but hazardous road conditions may prevent them from restoring power until the end of the day on Friday, May 3.
