Strong storm system to bring snow with blizzard-like conditions
6-12 inches of snow possible from Wed. to Thurs.
La Crosse is expected to get 1-2 inches of snow in La Crosse from Tuesday's snow showers. For people who live south of La Crosse, 3 inches of snow is possible.
As for the stronger storm system that's moving in on Wednesday night, StormTeam 8 Meteorologist Michelle Poedel says 6 to 13 inches of snow is still possible in the La Crosse area.
A strong storm system moving in from the southwest could bring 6-12 inches of snow with possible blizzard conditions in parts of the News 8 viewing area from Wednesday night and lasting through Thursday afternoon.
StormTeam 8 Meteorologist Michelle Poedel says the current forecast track would have the heaviest snow falling in far northeastern Iowa, far southeastern Minnesota, with a line heading northeast through La Crosse County and including those south and east of the area.
A Winter Storm Watch has been put in place for this system beginning tomorrow night and lasting through Thursday afternoon. Snowfall totals look to range from 6"-12" in the watch area with blizzard conditions possible Thursday as winds pick up gusting 30-40mph. The track of this storm could shift slightly, so we'll pin down more concrete snowfall totals later this afternoon and tomorrow morning.
Poedel says another band of snow will be moving in to the News 8 viewing area this morning. The band of snow is currently over far southern Minnesota and northern Iowa pushing east. Those in the I-90 corridor and south will see the bulk of the snowfall today with some accumulation possible. The farther you head south, the higher the snow totals today- 1" in the I-90 corridor with some spots possibly picking up 2" by this afternoon. Highs today will be in the low to mid 30s.
Conditions will be quiet tonight and during the day Wednesday before the stronger storm system arrives.
Looking ahead, Poedel says the snow will taper off from west to east Thursday afternoon and night. Temperatures will be quite chilly to end the work week Friday with highs in the low 20s, but sunshine will return.
Be sure to check in with StormTeam 8 as more details on Wednesday night's storm become available.
