Getting drafted was a dream fulfilled for Alec Brown. But he said the work is just beginning.
Once the first round of the NBA Draft ends, so too does the guaranteed money. The Winona grad was picked in the second round, 50th overall, by Phoenix. That means it's hardly a guarantee he will make the Suns roster.
Brown said he will play in the NBA Summer League in July, hoping to show the organization he can make an immediate impact as a rookie.
"For them to pick me, it's really exciting for me because I think I have a really good chance to make the roster," Brown said after the draft Thursday night.
"All the stuff we did [when I worked out with them] was stuff that relates to their team. A lot of running, a lot of fast break stuff, which is what they do. It's honestly what fits me the best. I knew I'd be a good fit on the team."
The Suns first Summer League game is Saturday, July 12th against Golden State.
"I still have to do all the little stuff that goes into it and I think I've been doing right so far. As long as I just keep doing what I'm doing, then hopefully I'll get the opportunity to play with an NBA team."
