WEST SALEM, Wis. - One area student has been very busy this weekend. West Salem Senior Luke Langreck created and hosted the inaugural Lake Neshonoc Pond Hockey Tournament as part of his senior exit project.
The tournament is Langreck's way of giving back to the sport he loves.
"I liked hockey when I started playing in second grade, so I thought this was a good idea. When I was a little kid, I used to come out here and skate, but nothing like this. I'd always wanted to and now it becomes a reality," he said.
The planning and execution of the tournament is actually two years in the making. The first puck was dropped on Friday night, as the 8-and-under mites skated under the lights. On Saturday, the tournament continued with an 8-team bracket for the adults that wanted to brave the elements.
"The ice is definitely not what you would expect. It's a lot bumpier, so passes aren't tape to tape. It's not quite like the game indoors."18490382
