Stricker falters on Sunday at US Open

ARDMORE, Pa. - Steve Stricker entered the day one stroke back, but took his lumps on one hole, and it was ugly.

Stricker pushed his tee shot on the par-5 second hole out-of-bounds. After hitting the next tee shot into the fairway, he tried to lay up with a 4-iron and hit a shank out-of-bounds. Stricker had to make a 7-foot putt to escape with a triple-bogey 8. He finished six over par, tied for 8th.

"I didn't feel nervous. I had a good warmup session. I felt good. I felt relaxed. I was excited for the day. Just the nature of the game," he said. "Still a good week. I competed well here this week. I did a lot of good things. Not what I was looking for today, but lots to build on and work towards when I play next at the John Deere."

Justin Rose won the US Open, while Phil Mickelson finished runner-up for the sixth time.
