MADISON, Wis. - It was a scoreless game in the bottom of the seventh inning. With pinch-runner Hillary Filla on third base, Alli Petz laid down a perfect bunt down the first base line.
"That was the most amazing feeling ever," said Filla. "Crossing home plate, knowing that we won and we're going tomorrow to win a state title."
"It's crazy," said Petz. "It just felt really good to have a win. I mean we've had a lot of games that have been close and it was good to put that down and get that run in."
The WIAA Division 3 state semifinal was also another tremendous performance on the mound for Arcadia senior Taylor Haines. She tossed seven shutout innings, allowing only three hits, and striking out 13.
"That was the most exciting moment of my life," said Haines following the walk-off win.
"I knew the bunt was coming and I knew if she got it down we were going to score because obviously Filla just ran state track last week so we had the speed on third."
The 1-0 win over Grantsburg advances undefeated Arcadia to Saturday's state championship game against Laconia. That game is scheduled to start at 12:35 p.m.
