Packers finalize coaching staff

Green Bay hires former Illinois coach Ron Zook

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WKBT) - The Packers have finalized their coaching staff for the 2014 season, adding a few new members.

The biggest new name might ring a bell for Big Ten football fans: Ron Zook. The former Illinois coach is now Green Bay's assistant special teams coach. Zook last worked in the NFL in 2001-- he coached in New Orleans when Mike McCarthy was the Saints' offensive coordinator.

Sam Gash is the team's new running backs coach. The former fullback has been an NFL assistant since 2005, most recently with the Lions.

Here are the other changes: Winston Moss will now coach both inside and outside linebackers; Alex Van Pelt moves from running backs coach to quarterbacks coach; Scott McCurley, Jason Simmons and John Rushing are all promoted to work with the defense; and Chris Gizzi becomes an assistant strength and conditioning coach. You may remember Gizzi from running out with the US flag when the Packers played in the first Monday Night Football game following 9/11.
