ONALASKA, Wis. (WKBT) - An Olympic swimmer made a stop in our area on Saturday.
Brendan Hansen, a six-time Olympic medalist, held a clinic at the Onalaska YMCA. He has won three golds, one silver and two bronze, having competed in the 2004, 2008 and 2012 Olympic games. Hansen won back-to-back gold medals in the 4x100 meter relay.
He spent a couple hours in the pool with the kids, and even held a few races against them.
"The most important thing is they realize at the end of the day that us Olympians are just regular people," Hansen said. "You know they see us on TV, they see us at the Olympics every four years and to make that connection with them, to where they realize that we're just like them, we grew up the same way, once they make that connection, hold the Olympic gold medal for about three minutes, hopefully we'll see them in a couple years in the Olympics."
Hansen said the biggest advice he gives is to not be afraid to fail and hit some bumps along the way.
