Highlight Zone Countdown: Westby Norsemen

Hulst Moves Into Head Coach

WESTBY, Wis. - Andy Hulst served as an assistant coach at Westby for the past seven years. In 2014 he gets his opportunity to run the show.

Hulst replaces Dan Nelson who took the Norsemen to the playoffs each of the past three years.

Only about a handful of starters are back from 2013 so both the team and Hulst will grow together early in the season.

"If we are going to contend and compete our defense will have to carry us for a little bit as our offense gets it's feet underneath it."

The offense lost three all-conference selections across the line. It's a position Hulst is keeping a close eye on throughout camp.

"It's a big question mark we have but hopefully are guys are up for the challange."

A positive about this young team is that due to injuries in 2013, many of them got an opportunity to get a little playing time and gain some valuable experience.

"Just work hard. Take baby steps since it's a long season," said senior Ross Withington. "We've all been playing with one another for a long time, we're all pretty young and I think we'll work well together."
