Dominican beats Blair-Taylor for third-straight title

Wildcats win first state runner-up trophy

3/15/14 - Boys Basketball - Dominican 74, Blair-Taylor 50

MADISON, Wis. (WKBT) - After winning its first game in eight tries at the state tournament, Blair-Taylor ran into a powerhouse in the championship.

The Wildcats fell to Dominican 74-50, as the Knights won their third-straight title.

B-T kept the game close into the third quarter, but Dominican pulled away behind its 6-10 forward, Diamond Stone. He tallied 28 points and 11 rebounds.

"The way we came out confident, having fun, it was just great because we were just playing our game and having confidence," said B-T senior Dalton Soto.

"We were rolling well," B-T junior Brett Ladsten said. "We got momentum, our shots were falling, but in the second half we just got tired. They have depth on their team and got good players and they just out-hustled us in the second half. Obviously, we'd like to have gone out there and won but think of all the kids that would love to be in our seats right now. We're taking it for what it is."

The Wildcats finish their historic season with a 23-4 record.

"To come down and be the first team in Blair-Taylor history to get a win, that's awesome," senior Nolan Kujak said. "To be able to say in the whole state of Wisconsin, you're in second place right now, that's really hard to explain."

"It's hard to put into words what this means to our community," said Head Coach Randy Storlie. "We've got great fans, they just love coming to games. Now, with our hard work and our kids right out of the Coulee Region, we can accomplish great goals."
