College World Series champ Chris Keck joins Loggers

LA CROSSE, Wis. - The Loggers will gain an extra bat off the bench for Wednesday's big game against Madison.

Chris Keck, who just won the College World Series with UCLA, joins the Loggers.

"It's a once in a lifetime opportunity," Keck said. "A lot of people can't say they've been there once. I have the opportunity to say I've been there twice. It's pretty cool. Also, winning it was unbelievable. If you asked me two months ago if we would've done that, I would've said you're crazy."

Keck was a back-up infielder for the Bruins. He'll likely begin in the same role for La Crosse, although he said he's open to playing any position, pitcher included.

"I'm ready to play. I'm just trying to get at-bats, see some live pitching, so it should be fun."

After winning the World Series, he flew home to Northern California for a few days. Tuesday, he flew from Oakland to Seattle to Minneapolis. He arrived in La Crosse around 11 p.m. on Tuesday night, so Wednesday afternoon was his first chance to meet his new teammates.

La Crosse plays Madison at 7 p.m.
