Central-Logan shines on final day of State Ski

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) - The home team dominated the home team's course.

The Central-Logan boys skiers, who finished second each of the last two years, are bringing home a state title.

"This is huge for Central," said Red Rangers skier Rainer Paulus. "The past two years we've come so close to winning State."

"It's just great. It's been tough for us the last couple of years, we've come up just short, but we've finally pulled it off," said Red Rangers skier Eric Johnson.

Johnson won the Men's Slalom and Giant Slalom. He finished third in the Super G and earns the individual state title for boys skiing.

"We've just been working as a team, pushing each other, really just improving everything all around and it's nice to be able to perform on this level, on this stage, with this many people watching," Johnson said.

Central-Logan skier Abby Leinfelder, who swept all three events, is also a state champion. This is her second individual title-- she won State her freshman year and finished second last year.

"It lit my fire to want to do even better this year, so it feels good to have it back," she said. "It feels really good. I have really good parents and I have support from all my teammates. They just hugged me and congratulated me and and it was just really relaxing."

Leinfelder and Johnson are among six local qualifiers for the Eastern National Championships. You can see that list here.
