It has been a season of successes for the Brookwood football program.
After a 2-7 season in 2012, the Falcons captured the Scenic Bluffs Conference Championship.
They are preparing for their first ever WIAA Level 3 playoff game when they travel to Darlington on Saturday.
Even the Green Bay Packers have taken notice, naming head coach Doug Brieske the Green Bay Packers High School Coach of the Week.
"This is huge," said Brieske. "It means a lot to the team and a lot to the school and especially the team and the community too. It's just a great accomplishment for everybody."
"Since I've been playing we have never even been close to winning conference and this year we just have a solid core," said senior Paul Ryan. "We all knew we had a way better team this year. We have way better leaders this year and that carries your team everywhere."
The deep playoff run made for an extremely exciting weekend for Brookwood junior Billy Nusse.
On Friday night he played in the Falcons' 27-7 victory over Iowa-Grant.
Following the game he drove up to Wisconsin Rapids to take his spot on the state qualifying Brookwood cross country team. Nusse finished 87th overall as Brookwood placed 9th as a team.
"Waking up early kind of takes a toll on you," said Nusse who woke up early to get his cross country work in throughout the fall.
"But after you get used to it, it's not bad. Coach Brieske helped me out through the whole thing. Doing it last year too that helped and it wasn't bad last year so I just thought I would do it again."
