Bronson Koenig prepares for Final Four

ARLINGTON, Texas (WKBT) - Aquinas grad Bronson Koenig's confidence may not be any higher than it is right now, on the eve of playing in the Final Four.

Koenig has played at least 16 minutes in each NCAA tournament game, and he's shooting 54 percent from the field in those games.

"It's been pretty crazy the past couple of days but it's been really exciting and it's a great experience," Koenig said.

Last week, Koenig and the Badgers clinched the program's first trip to the Final Four since 2000.

"It meant a lot. It's very special that we got Coach [Ryan] to his first Final Four. It's just really exciting and hopefully we can get a National Championship back."

Saturday night, they face Kentucky in the national semifinals.

"Obviously they start five freshmen. They are really long and athletic like a lot of teams that we played, but I think they are the top team in the nation for offensive rebounding so we really have to keep them off the glass."

The Badgers rely on a handful of freshmen, too. Nigel Hayes is another big contributor for Wisconsin.

"Hopefully we can come in and contribute anyway we can. It should be a good game. I've seen a lot of these guys on the AAU circuit and we're kind of familiar with their games."

Koenig was able to meet up with his former high school coach, Rick Schneider, who is in Texas to watch the game.

"He actually came to my hotel right before we left to come here. So yeah I got to catch up with him so that was nice."

Koenig's mother and father will also be in attendance Saturday.
