Track and field meet raises money for Freedom Honor Flight

LA CROSSE, Wis. - Track and Field athletes braved the cold and snowy weather over the weekend to raise money for veterans in our area.

The UW-La Crosse men's and women's track and field teams hosted the Phil Esten Challenge on the UW-La Crosse campus to raise money for the La Crosse chapter of the Freedom Honor Flight.

Eight teams were in the meet, as well as individual competitors.

The men's track and field coach says the fundraiser relies on the athletes taking ownership of the event.

"All of our athletes go out and solicit funds and donations for the program lump sum or per point that we score at teh competition here if you score 200 points and you have a penny per point it adds all up and we get the money we raised for the event," says Josh Buccholtz.
