LA CROSSE, Wis. - UW-La Crosse Eagles running back Ben Hertrampf accounted for nearly 30-percent of the team's offense a year ago. He was also the leading rusher on the team this season through four games.
However Hertrampf's 2012 campaign has concluded. He suffered a left knee injury in Saturday's win in Stevens Point and will need to have season-ending surgery.
Eagles head coach Joel Dettwiler really likes the depth in the backfield as they'll need to replace a player who accounted for such a large percentage of their offense. "What's fortunate for us is that we've got I don't know if I would say a stable full of running backs, but we've got some guys who are experienced and working hard."16850038
Junior Jared Stan is set to make his first college start this Saturday when the Eagles have their season home opener against UW-Platteville. "This will be my first start in college so it's an exciting experience, that's for sure. I've been waiting for this for a long time putting in a lot of hard work in and everything is starting to flow together."
Backing up Stan will be sophomore Dillon Bean, a graduate from Westby High School. "I've never been more excited to step up and the team counts on me now. It's a different feeling now - before preparing for games I knew it was Ben and Jared. Now that my name is in the mix it's a different feeling and it's a good feeling and I'm ready to show that I can be counted upon."
"We're looking forward to both of those guys carrying the football," adds Dettwiler.
