The feud between champion golfers Sergio Garcia and Tiger Woods has taken an ugly turn.

Garcia is under fire for saying he would serve his rival Woods fried chicken for dinner every night during next month's U.S. Open, according to ESPN.

"We'll have him 'round every night,'' Garcia said in response to a question at a European Tour awards dinner Tuesday night. "We will serve fried chicken.''

The two players have been verbally sparring since The Players Championship nearly two weeks ago, when Garcia took issue with Woods over what he perceived as a breach in golf etiquette.

Feud or no feud, Woods took to Twitter on Wednesday and called Garcia's latest remarks inappropriate.

"The comment that was made wasn't silly. It was wrong, hurtful and clearly inappropriate," he wrote in a series of tweets. "I'm confident that there is real regret the remark was made. The Players ended nearly two weeks ago and it's long past time to move (on) and talk about golf."

Garcia later issued an apology.

"I want to send an unreserved apology. I did not want to offend anyone," he said Wednesday, according to The Associated Press. "My answer was totally stupid and out of place."
