LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) -

It's a much-improved season thus far for the UW-La Crosse women's basketball team. They're off to a 5-4 start; they were 3-6 at this time last year.

"We have our injured players back now from last year in Katie Ehlen and Jenna Anderson and they have made great impacts thus far," said UW-L Head Coach Lois Heeren.

Last year, the two starters suffered season-ending ACL tears. They actually had surgery within a day of each other. Almost exactly a year later, both are happy to contribute.

"It was nice mentally having someone else that was going through the exact same thing," Ehlen said. "We had to sit through practice, we had to sit through games."

"It's a little bit weird still sitting out a year," said Anderson. "I've never sat out a year of basketball since I was little, so that was little weird. But it feels good to be back out there."

The Eagles travel to Orlando on December 20 for a tournament.
