Peterson's father, Nelson Peterson, had no further comment.
Peterson missed practice Thursday to deal with a medical issue involving a young family member, according to the Argus (S.D.) Leader. He was spotted in Sioux Falls, S.D.
He returned to practice Friday and said he plans to play Sunday against the Carolina Panthers.
"I really appreciate all the support from fans and the Vikings," Peterson said. "I ask y'all respect my privacy."
The Argus Leader reported that the health issue is "very serious" and "likely will be a police matter." A Sioux Falls toddler is in critical condition with choking injuries after allegedly being assaulted by a man.
TMZ first reported that it involves Peterson's 2-year-old son. He was reportedly rushed to a hospital and medical experts determined the injuries were consistent with abuse.
According to police, emergency responders arrived at the apartment where Peterson's son reportedly lives at 5:46 p.m. Wednesday and found the child unresponsive.
