Winona Native Ready for Summer League

PHOENIX (WKBT) - From Winona to the NBA.

Alec Brown is living a dream.

"I don't even know how to explain it right now. It's been kind of surreal," Brown said on the phone from Phoenix.

Brown, who played at UW-Green Bay, was the 50th overall pick in last month's NBA Draft by the Phoenix Suns.

"Getting drafted was an awesome experience with my family and friends there and just having the chance to be with my family for the 4th then come here and start training, start practicing, it's an amazing experience."

But now, he has his work cut out for him.

"It's been tough, for sure. Been practicing twice a day, going hard, getting in shape for summer, getting the plays down and stuff. It's been tough but at the same time, it's been one of the coolest things I've ever done in my life."

Technically, Brown hasn't signed a contract, since money isn't guaranteed to second round draft picks. He has to perform well in practice and the upcoming NBA Summer League.

"I'm super excited for it. I don't know what to expect right now. I'm excited for the opportunity. Ready to get playing."

The Suns' first game is Saturday night against Golden State. And from the player in the NBA to Winona, Brown had a message for everyone back home.

"I just want to thank everyone for all the support everyone gives me. For those couple days after the draft, I said thank you more than I have in my whole life. Everyone was just being supportive, everyone congratulated me and it was really cool to see how many people were paying attention to it."
