MANKATO, Min. - It did not take long for NHL teams to show interest in La Crescent native Eriah Hayes once his college career finished.
Just a few days after losing in the NCAA Tournament, Hayes signed a contract with the San Jose Sharks
"Obviously it feels really great. I don't know if there is a better feeling in the world, kind of sitting back and thinking about it and realizing that I signed an NHL contract. It's a dream come true."
Hayes says San Jose was one of three teams that were extremely interested in his services, with a few more NHL clubs making contact with him. The former Lancer became a free agent when Minnesota State's season came to an end.19642676
"I found that San Jose was the best organization and best fit for me. On Tuesday I signed the deal."
Hayes will immediately report to San Jose's AHL affiliate, the Worcester Sharks, for the remaining nine games left this season.
An All-WCHA Third Team selection in 2012-13, Hayes in his senior year at MSU tallied 20 goals and 16 assists for 36 points.
