3/12/14 - Boys Basketball - Caledonia 73, St. Paul Academy 53

MINNEAPOLIS, Min. - Two huge scoring runs helped Caledonia to a 73-53 win against St. Paul Academy and Summit School in the MSHSL Class AA boys basketball state quarterfinal game.

With the victory Caledonia advances to face top-seeded Annandale Friday in the state semifinals. That game is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. at the Target Center.

Playing in the program's first state game since 1997, Caledonia began the game cold. The Warriors missed their first five baskets from the field. That allowed St. Paul Academy to build up an early 8-0 lead.

Austin Bauer immediately responded making four straight three-pointers. A Colton Lampert layup capped a 14-0 Warriors run as they took a 14-8 lead.

Then holding on to a 53-51 lead in the second half, Caledonia scored 22 of the final 20 points of the game.

The Warriors finished with 14 three-pointers, shooting 48.3% from behind the arc. Bauer went 7-9 from downtown and had a game high 28 points. 8th grader Owen King chipped in 21 points.

Caledonia's record now stands at 28-2. Annandale will take a 24-6 record into Friday's matchup.
