For the first time in program history, Cochrane-Fountain City is headed to state.

The Pirates mounted a big comeback, beating Barneveld 54-44 at Logan on Saturday. Senior Garrett Marklowitz was a big part of it, scoring 16 points.

"It's an unreal feeling," he said. "I can't even explain it with words. This feels amazing. Just, the journey it took to get here, it's unreal."

Marklowitz's contributions on the court, however, pale in comparison to those off the court.

"He's our team leader. He does everything. He has put this team on his back," said Head Coach Craig Baker. "I just can't say enough about Garrett. He's one of the most genuine people you're ever going to meet."

The Pirates face Thorp on Thursday at the Kohl Center at approximately 3:15 p.m.
