The prep wrestling season is still a few months away, but that hasn't kept one local teen off the mats this summer.
After going 8-1 at the National Championships in Ohio, West Salem's Devin Bahr is headed to the World Youth Wrestling Championships in Serbia.
Bahr will compete against wrestlers from more than 15 countries, and says local support is one of the biggest reasons for his success.
"This is the club that has trained me since I was in second grade," Bahr said. "It's gotten me all my technique, all my talent. Pushed me to be my best, and it means a whole lot to me. It's like my second home."
Bahr has competed in tournaments all across the country. His wrestling coach says he's ready for the challenge of competing abroad.
"Like any other really good athlete, they don't want to lose. I mean, he's just very driven to win, and gives every thing he has. Never out of it. If he's down in points, he's always there to compete," said La Crosse Area Wrestlers Coach Jeff Van Maanen.
The world championships begin next month.
