HOLMEN, WI -

American Legion baseball playoffs get underway across the state of Wisconsin this week.

One to watch will be the Class AA Regional hosted by Sparta. Among the six teams playing are Holmen and Onalaska, both teams ranked in the top-five in the state all summer long. The other four teams are the La Crosse North Stars, Tomah, Baraboo, and Sparta.

Holmen Post #284 won the Class AA State Championship in 2012 and is ready to defend that state title.

"We're obviously hungry for the next one," said Holmen pitcher Greg Rooney. "We know we can compete with the other teams, and we're really excited to get to the state tournament."

During that 2012 championship run, Holmen ran the table in the postseason with a perfect 10-0 record.

"Back-to-back is almost unheard of, and I think we definitely can do it," said Rooney. "We have the team and the skills."
