state runners up once again.
News 8 Sports Director Gregg Wavrunek has more from
standup After coming back from a 3-goal deficit in
their state semifinal game, the Hilltoppers almost
rallied down by 4 in the state championship.
Reeves I mean we like to give ourselves a challenge
I think obviously coming from behind.
I'm really glad of how we pulled together and things
didn't roll our way.
Knutson We didn't want to give up, we didn't want
to end on a bad note.
And coach said go down fighting and that's what we
did, we went down fighting and I couldn't be prouder
of my team.
Franzini The girls just never quit.
They never quit all year, they were very coachable
and they did everything we asked and fought to the
voice 2014 ended like the past two seasons - playing
on championship saturday - and now bringing home their
third straight runner-up trophy.
Knutson They've meant more than words can describe.
I loved every minute of it.
I love my team, I love playing hockey for Onalaska.
The past three years yeah we got second but we got
a lot farther than a lot of teams.
We worked hard as a team and we accomplished a lot
as a team.
standup Along with those three trophies, Onalaska
co-op's record since 2012 is 68 and 16...a winning
percentage of over .800...a three year run any program
would be proud of.

the school's 1-st ever runners-up trophy.
Once again .
standup Well there is no simpler way of saying it
than Onalaska ran into a buzzsaw in their championship
game matchup against Verona.
Tepp They were a great team.
We thought they were going to be tough.
I mean they beat Notre Dame yesterday who was ranked
first state all year.
Ebner They are the toughest team we faced.
They were better than we were today.
They had more speed, they had more jump and they are
a good hockey team...great hockey team.
voice Verona's defense limited the Hilltoppers to
only nine shots on goal.
Gargaro They blocked a ton of shots.Their defense
was probably one of the best defensive corps I've
seen my whole four years playing for this team.
voice even though it's silver and not gold the team
is bringing home, this team has set a new bar for
the Onalaska hockey program.
Tepp Now all the teams after us have to do this.
This is what they have to do, this is the standard
now - state tournament or nothing.
Ebner They need to be proud of what they did.
They've established where we are as a program now.
They've set the bar they've been chasing for years.
Gargaro No one thought we were able to get this far
- no one in the state, no one in our area, even some
people on our team.
They didn't think we'd be the second best team in
the state at the end of the season.
