WHITEHALL, Wis. (WKBT) -

Good news for Whitehall: the Norse return an all-conference quarterback.

Payton Slaby will take the field for his second season under center. Last year, he helped lead Whitehall to a 6-1 conference record.

"It feels great," he said. "It gives you a lot of confidence to get back on the field and hopefully have a good season."

"Last year, Payton did a great job for us as a sophomore, so this year, we got him back as a junior and he's looking very sharp, very crisp, picking up where he left off," said Head Coach John Kleinhans.

The Norse begin the season with extra motivation. They went 7-3, then lost in level one of the playoffs.

"You kind of always remember your last loss," Kleinhans said. "That stays in your mouth with a bitter taste. This year we've been trying to build and work on it and we're hoping to get back into the playoffs again and get another shot at it."
