Chill stopped cold, miss playoffs

Coulee Region falls to Minnesota Magicians 7-3

3/30/14 - MN Magicians 7, Coulee Region 3

ONALASKA, Wis. (WKBT) - After playing much of the season in third place in the NAHL's Midwest Division Standings, the Chill found themselves in an uncomfortable position Sunday afternoon: on the outside of the playoffs looking in.

The Chill underwent a difficult losing streak over the last month. Still, after Kenai River lost Saturday night, the Chill had a chance to make the postseason. They trailed Kenai River by one point in the division standings entering the season finale, meaning they only needed a win or overtime loss to make the postseason (CRC held the tiebreaker).

But the Chill were stopped cold in their last game of the season. Coulee Region fell to the Minnesota Magicians 7-3.

"I guess the message in there was, you know, don't hang your heads," said Chill Head Coach AJ Degenhardt. "Obviously we're frustrated right now with what happened. The guys are taking it tough in there. But you've got to focus on the positives from this season too, and those are the building blocks for the future.

"Don't forget the feeling that you all just had in there and remember that to make you a better person."

The building blocks definitely appear in place for the future. It was a turnaround season for the Chill, who finish with a 31-28-1 record.
