Madison, WI - Central slams on the gas midway through the first half and the Red Raiders never looked back. They shot over 50% from the field. Out-rebounded Waunakee by 13. And dominated in points in the paint, fast break, and bench points. But the biggest number was holding Waunakee to just 33% from the field.
"Credit to our length, close outs, all the details we focus in on defense, " senior Kobe King said. "We can improve on things but overall I think 50 some points to a great Waunakee team is a pretty good job."
"Once we went on that big run offensively and we started digging in on the defensive end is when we started having more fun I feel like," senior Bailey Kale said.
"I thought we had a pretty good week of preparation to get ready for today, " head coach Todd Fergot said. "I thought as the game went on we settled down a bit but I'm actually really excited to go and watch film and watching some things that we did well but I'm also looking forward to seeing the things that we can improve on. These guys know we are never satisfied. Our goal tomorrow is to get to 1-0 and it's been that way from day one for us."
There were happy faces on the Central sideline but not too much for celebration afterwards. The Red Raiders preferred pointing out things they could improve on versus talking about what went well. Still 36 big minutes of basketball ahead, as Central will face Cedarburg tomorrow at 6:35 pm.
Winner brings home a shiny gold ball.
