Bekakis powers Loggers back into 1st place

LA CROSSE, Wis. - Long Beach State sophomore Johnny Bekakis entered Friday evening having hit one home run in his first 27 games in the Northwoods League.

Bekakis became a surprise source of power, hitting 2 home runs along with 4 RBI to help La Crosse to a 4-3 victory against Lakeshore. With the win the Loggers split the two game series and La Crosse moves back into first place in the first half NWL South Division standings.

A Madison Mallards win on Friday night also moved them in a first place tie with La Crosse with five games to go in the first half of the season. Lakeshore trails both teams by a half game.


The Loggers now head out for a three game series at Wisconsin Rapids.

La Crosse then returns home on Tuesday for a two game series at Copeland Park against Madison which will wrap up first half play.
