Aquinas HS dedicates baseball field
Field named in honor of former teacher, athletic director
Aquinas High School dedicated its baseball field on Monday night to former athletic director, teacher and coach Lee Gilbert.
Aquinas High School Principal and Athletic Director Ted Knutson says Gilbert was the driving force behind Aquinas’ use of the ball fields, which are on Diocesan grounds, and preparing the grounds for play. Gilbert worked at the high school from 1958 to 1992.
He passed away in 2002 due to complications from Diabetes.
At Monday's dedication, a number of family members were present including siblings, his daughters, and his wife. "Lee was very proud of Aquinas High School, and there wasn't anything he wouldn't do for the students and the staff at Aquinas and I think having this field named after him, even though he's been gone since 2002, is probably one of the highest honors he could ever receive," said Lee's wife Sue.
The ceremony took place before Aquinas took on Central.
