WINONA, Minn. -

After narrowly missing the cut for the NCAA Div. II playoffs, Winona State has accepted an invitation to play in the Mineral Water Bowl in Excelsior Springs, Missouri.

The Mineral Water Bowl pits the top teams from the NSIC and MIAA that do not qualify for the NCAA postseason.

“The Mineral Water Bowl experience is a great opportunity for our program to continue to grow,” WSU head coach Tom Sawyer said in a press release. “The bowl committee creates a great experience and does a great job making our players feel welcome. We are excited to get a chance to continue playing and represent Winona State in the postseason.”

This will be Winona State's third appearance in the game. The Warriors finished the season 9-2 overall, with its only two losses coming to playoff teams.

Lindenwood, which is only in its second year of competing as an NCAA Div. II school, will make its first appearance in the Mineral Water Bowl. The Lions are 8-3 overall.

Kickoff will be at 12 p.m. on Dec. 1.
