UW-La Crosse rebounded from a lopsided loss to UW-Platteville last week with a 33-18 win over UW-Stout at Veterans Memorial Sports Complex. The Eagles improved to 3-4 overall and 2-2 in WIAC conference action.
"We have the stuff we're going to run and keep coaching it, and eventually, you have to trust that it's going to come out and show up and the kids will understand and start to figure it out," Eagles Coach Joel Dettwiler said.
The Blue Devils took a 10-0 lead in the first quarter, but UW-La Crosse scored the next 26 points. Stout trailed 26-18 late in the fourth and attempted an on-side kick, but La Crosse recovered and scored on the next play to seal the victory.
Eagles quarterback Andy Sires finished 22 of 32 passing for 261 yards and two touchdowns. UW-La Crosse's 443 yards of total offense is a season high.
The Eagles will need all the offense it can get against next week's opponent, UW-Oshkosh. The Titans are 7-0 this season.
"It's not over," Eagles quarterback Andy Sires said. "We've got another big one next week and we're going to take the same mentality into next week and see what happens."
