Another great local hoops player has decided to play at a local college.
At a signing ceremony Tuesday morning in Sparta, senior guard Schannel Giraud signed her letter of intent to play at Viterbo.
Giraud said she wanted to stay close to home, but never thought she would have the opportunity to do so.
"Last year at this time, I wasn't expecting that I'd be playing college basketball the next year," she said. "But I worked really hard throughout the summer, and I guess it's just paid off."
The Spartans went 4-19 this season, but Giraud averaged more than 12 points a game.
"We feel like Schannel's got her best basketball ahead of her. She's a kid who was kind of on the radar for us because of her athleticism," Viterbo Women's Basketball Coach Bobbi Valdenberg said. "I think she's kind of a diamond in the rough here."
