Longtime NHL forward Jaromir Jagr plans to return for his 23rd NHL season in 2014-15 and is close to signing a contract to remain with the New Jersey Devils, according to Nova Sports.
The 42-year-old veteran said after practice on Tuesday with the Czech Republic national team, which is preparing for the world championships in Belarus, that he expects a deal with the Devils to be finalized soon.
The ageless Jagr led the Devils in points this year by a wide margin with 67 and participated in all 82 regular-season games. He also played for the Czech Republic's Olympic team in February in Sofia, Russia.
Jagr, who signed with a one-year, $4.55 million deal with the Devils before last season, is expected to land a similar contract for next season.
Jagr is among the NHL career leaders in points with 1,755 (sixth, tied with Steve Yzerman) and goals (seventh with 705).
