Packers will rely on young defense
The Green Bay Packers head into the season opener against San Francisco with young players starting on defense.
Outside linebacker Nick Perry, the team's first-round draft pick this year, will be an opening-day starter. Jerel Worthy, a second-round selection, is expected to play a lot, paired with Pro Bowl nose tackle B.J. Raji.
The Packers had the NFL's worst-ranked defense and set a league record for most passing yards allowed last season. And they face a 49ers team loaded with talent on offense, from quarterback Alex Smith to tight end Vernon Davis to running back Frank Gore and the receiving duo of Michael Crabtree and Randy Moss.
The Packers have ruled out running back James Starks (toe) and linebacker Jamari Lattimore (ankle) for the game.
