MADISON, Wis. -

Wisconsin's spring game is Saturday, and as many question marks as there are at quarterback, wide receiver, and offensive line, there are just as many on defense.

Defensive end David Gilbert's college career is over due to foot injuries, which means someone else will have to provide pressure on opposing quarterbacks.

One player to keep an eye on is redshirt freshman Vince Biegel, who has a unique connection to Gilbert. Both players faced foot injuries; Biegel broke his left foot last season. He says Gilbert gave him advice, but the biggest reason he fought back from the injury: the tough lessons he learned growing up on a cranberry marsh in Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.

"Growing up on a cranberry marsh was definitely a great experience," Biegel said. "Growing up on the farm, my dad was always pulling me off in the summers and always long hard days with me and my brother out there on the marsh, helping him out anyway we can. But definitely a blessing. Working on the marsh taught me good hard working skills and to be accountable for my actions as well."

Wisconsin's Spring Game kicks off at 4 p.m. Saturday.
