Washington Nationals right-handed pitcher Stephen Strasburg has been named the opening day starter April 5 against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field, by manager Davey Johnson on Wednesday.

Strasburg is 0-3 with a 5.52 ERA this spring. The 23-year-old returned late last season after undergoing Tommy John surgery in September 2010 and was 1-1 with a 1.50 ERA in five starts.

The top pick in the 2009 amateur draft took the league by storm in 2010, striking out 92 batters in 68 innings over his first 12 starts.

Newly acquired left-handed pitcher Gio Gonzalez will start Washington's second game.
