Logan names Fernholz new head coach
Andy Fernholz is officially introduced as the new La Crosse Logan boys basketball head coach on Thursday. He becomes the third person over the past three years to hold the position.
"I'm extremely excited for the opportunity. I'm extremely excited to be a part of the Logan community and the Logan family."
Fernholz spent last season as an assistant coach with the Rangers, under then head coach Joe Stekel. After getting a social studies teaching job at Logan this summer, Fernholz applied for the head coaching job. La Crosse School District policy favors coaching candidates employed within the school district. Stekel is a teacher for the Bangor School District.
Fernholz, a long-time La Crosse Aquinas player and assistant coach, will now lead a program that used to be a huge city rival of his.
"I graduated from Aquinas in 2001, had the opportunity to coach with Coach (Rick) Schneider at Aquinas for six years. It was an extremely great opportunity, had the opportunity to be a part of a lot of very good teams and learned a ton. Coaching at Logan wasn't something that I saw a few years back but it's something that has worked out and I think it's going to be a lot of fun. Those games versus Aquinas are going to be a ton of fun."
