With his sore right foot showing few signs of progress, James Harden’s availability to play against the Timberwolves tonight was called a game-time decision. Harden sat out two practices this week, but played Saturday and Wednesday against the Suns since developing pain in his foot. He went through a long shooting drill after Friday’s shootaround and sounded as if he thought he would be playing, even while agreeing that it was uncertain. Asked if he would play against the Timberwolves tonight, Harden laughed and said, “I’ve been playing with it since that game (against Golden State.) I just have to get treatment and do the right things for it.” Harden has missed two games this season. He also was hurt in the previous game against the Warriors, spraining his ankle in the second half Feb. 12. He went through warm ups the next night and was ruled ready to play. He was even in the starting lineup the Rockets turned in about 35 minutes before the tip before his ankle worsened and he sat out the game. “James has got a couple things going on his foot that are bothering him,” Rockets coach Kevin McHale said. “He has to figure out what approach is going to help him maintain at least he amount of healing that is going to take place from here on out. Ideally, we’d say he’ll take three weeks off, but I don’t think we’re at that point. He has to figure out how much rest and how much activity he can do and still get some healing into that foot. “It’s up to him. He has to balance that himself. It’s his foot. No one can tell him how he feels. He just has to be able to say, ‘I feel good enough,’ or “If I take a day off, it feels better.’ I want his foot to be better a week from today. You also want him to play if he can. If those are not compatible, you have to make other decisions.”
Harden strikes positive tone but still a game-time decision
