Caledonia volleyball makes it to state
So close, yet so far away.
That sums up the Caledonia volleyball program these past few seasons. For each of the last five years the Warriors were one win away from state.
But finally this past Saturday, the Warriors were able to punch their ticket. Caledonia beat Kasson-Mantorville 3-1 in the Section 1AA Championship.
"It felt sweet cause we've been working at it for how many years and we finally made it," says senior setter Taylor Winjum.
"When we got that last point, to come together at the end you can't describe that feeling," adds senior middle hitter Emma Lange.
For this year's seniors, the journey began back in elementary school. "This group of seniors has been playing together since 4th grade and to bring all of our talents together we've created a really good team," says Lange.
Now that the Warriors finally cleared that hurdle to make it to state, the number-two seeded team in Class AA hopes to continue the success they've seen this season.
"It's going to be really intense and exciting, but we're going to play like its any other game," says senior middle hitter Maria Fruechte. Head coach Scott Koepke adds, "The girls are just really proud that we accomplished what we set out to accomplish...they're just excited to go play some more."
