Three years ago, Tom Lee created a Word document on his computer. He called it "when."
"Any article that I read, I'd put a link to it. Ideas that I had, I'd put that there, and that really helped me as I got through the interview process," Lee said.
For Lee, "when" is now. Lee was named the Blugolds' head coach, replacing long-time coach Dan Coughlin, who announced his retirement in January.
"I can't believe how excited I am," Lee said.
Lee graduated Aquinas in 1990 and attended UW-La Crosse. He's taught social studies at the high school since 2000 and assisted on Dan Coughlin's football staff for the past 17 years, primarily focusing on defense. Lee, therefore, knows better than anyone that he has big shoes to fill.
"(Coughlin) cast a huge shadow. He's meant so much to me, as a coach, as a friend," he said. "I know that if I need him, he'll be a resource for me."
Lee said he first talked to his team on Friday.
"We're hoping to win a state championship in basketball, so basketball guys are hands off. But everybody else, it's going to be all hands on deck."
