The two teams we look at for today's Countdown to
the News 8 Highlight Zone have new coaches coming
into programs with plenty of recent success.
Over in Westby Andy Hulst is the new head coach after
serving as an assistant with the Norsemen the past
Hulst taking over for Dan Nelson who took Westby to
the playoffs each of the past three years.
Only about a handful of
starters are back from 2013....however
injuries last year gave some of the younger guys back
then playing time and experience.
If we are going to contend and compete our defense
will have to carry us for a little bit as our offense
gets it's feet underneath it.
Just work hard every year, take baby steps since it's
a long season.
We've all been playing with one another for a long
time, we're all pretty young and I think we'll work
Long-time Necedah head coach Eric Mach is no longer
leading the Cardinals.
Jim Beaver takes over the program.
Kind of an interesting dynamic in that Beaver's assistant
coaches are made up of all of the others who applied
for the head coaching job this offseason.
Beaver now will put his own stamp on a program that
is currently on a run
of eleven straight playoff appearances.
It's a lot more harder work now because it's a whole
new staff so they are throwing in different things
that we didn't have the last two years..
New faces, new offense, new defense, everything.
Everything is different.
Each one of us brings something new to the table.
We have a guy that is really strong on defense, guy
really strong on offense.
Lots of individuals as a coaching staff that is put
together pretty well.
It kind of helps when the seniors step up and kind
of lead to because they know what we're used to and
they can adjust to us too.
