The N-C-A-A division three outdoor track and field
championships are this week in Ohio.
Once again .
the U-W-L women are sending a big group .
including a big transfer .
a name very familiar to our area.
You'd be hard pressed to find someone who's made more
memories at this stadium .
than Bria Halama.
Bria 20/40 It just makes me think of state track.
The 2011 Independence grad was a two-time state champion
in the 400 .
and a four-time state champ in the triple jump.
21/07 Just to think like you know, this was the runway
that I had that crazy moment.
And as one of the best in our area .
she signed with the University of Minnesota.
21/26 I wanted to see what my potential was, how good
I could get.
If I had the chance to go D-I, I wanted to try it
I wanted to see what that was like.
But Bria only competed as a Gopher for two seasons.
21/34 I didn't feel like it was me.
I didn't have any problems with anybody on the team,
but it never quite felt like home.
So Bria decided to return home .
or at least as close to home as she could get.
22/07 I mean I've always liked the city of La Crosse.
They have such a successful track program.
The division one recruit had success here in division
three right away.
This winter .
in U-W-L's indoor season .
she won a national title in triple jump.
23/07 I kind of thought it would take a while to get
adjusted to the coaches and the different ways of
training but BUTT it all kind of came together and
it worked out really well.
?? The next step??
Doing well in the outdoor championships this week.
Of course .
that means having to make memories at a new track.
24/40 Yeah definitely.
It's fun to travel, to see new places
