G: Good evening from Milwaukee.
For the 11th time in 13 NCAA tournament appearances
under Bo Ryan....the Badgers are victorious in their
They will take on Oregon Saturday in the third round.
Badgers beat American University 75-35....but based
on the first 15 minutes of this game...I don't think
many saw a 40-point blowout coming.
Wisconsin trailed 17-10 .
but Ben Brust kick-started the Wisconsin offense with
a pair of three-pointers.
A 13-3 Badgers run gives them the lead.
Up ten at halftime...Wisconsin and Brust stay hot.
Another pair of three's for the senior...putting them
Sam Dekker providing the exclamation mark with the
And the defense holds American to only 13 second-half
points...on 16-percent shooting.
Badgers end the game on a 65-18 run.
G: Brust finishes the game with 17 points....and a
hair shy of holding a major career Badgers record.
With more on the senior here is News 8's Kyle Deckelbaum.
K: Ben Brust's four-three pointers today puts him
at 204 for his career....just four shy of making more
three's than anybody else in program history.
Ben I knew I was getting close, but when I'm out there,
I'm just trying to do things to make the team successful.
But Ben might be the only Badger who knows how close
he is to history.
Ben is four three's away from becoming the school's
he is? Go Ben!What's your reaction to that?
Hayes I'm not shocked at all.
Ben's a great shooter.
We all know Ben's a great shooter.
We're actually shocked when the ball doesn't go in
when he shoots it.
Kaminsky Ben's a sharp shooter.
He really hunts down his shot and I'm not surprised
by that at all.
The way I've been able to see Ben since he played
in high school, he's always been a great three-point
shooter and when he's on fire, Ben's on fire and he
lets everyone know when he's on fire because he's
really going out there and shooting and he was able
to hit some great shots tonight.
And with one more game like that .
the record won't be a secret anymore.
It iwll be in the history books for everyone to see.
Brust It'd be special, definitely be really special,
but I think winning is most important because if we
keep winning, I think it will happen naturally.
As it has his whole career.
As the senior leader on this team, no one better to
ask than Brust as to what they do in the next 24 hours
to prepare for Oregon.
K: Wisconsin will be back on the floor here at the
Bradley Center Friday at noon.
G: Thanks Kyle.
Playing so close to Madison...Aquinas grad Bronson
Koenig gets to play in
front of many friends and family...one
of whom is Carson Schneider who was a part of last
year's Blugolds state championship team.
G: Speaking of the state basketball tournament...the
Central girls take on DeForest Friday afternoon in
the Division two state semifinal game.
G: I'll be in Green Bay Friday with News 8's coverage
of the Red Raiders run at state.
That does this evening from Milwuakee.
Before we head to break...here are scores from tonight.
