Prairie du Chien Olympic Bronze Medalist Matt Antoine
is back home in Wisconsin.
It's been quite a season for him....winning his first
World Cup event....and making the medal stand in Sochi.
It's certainly been a great season.
I don't know if it fully set in.
I think it's going to take a little bit more time,
but at the same time it's something I have been preparing
?You accomplished your dream of qualifying for the
How quickly did you kind of have to put that away
and the focus on not just showing up at Sochi but
hitting the medal stand?
It's definitely a tough mental battle with yourself.
You don't want to get caught up in things that are
Qualifying for the games is certainly the first goal,
it's the first step along the way.
But I always knew the big picture was to medal in
?I've got to ask whether it was crossing the finish
line or the ceremony, what will be that one moment
that you could probably replay in your mind moment
for moment like it just happened?
I think the medal ceremony will definitely be the
thing that I remember the most.
Walking out on that stage, just the lights and all
the fans out there and the cheering and everything
And then my family was standing right there in the
front row watching it all.
?You peaked at the right year.
If this would have been a year earlier or a year later
the whole Olympic experience may not have happened.
What do you credit that to?
It's just taking all of your experiences over the
years, finding out what's worked and what hasn't.
I definitely had setbacks over the last four years.
A lot of things that I had to come back from or work
And it's just kind of taking all of those disapointments
and continueing to grow from them.
?You mentioned the setbacks, I know you had a knee
problem a couple of years back.
Was there ever a moment that it crossed your mind
wondering if this wasn't for me?
I think maybe at times there's definitely doubts that
But I knew that I had the long term goal in mind.
When I had that knee surgery two years ago, I made
that choice to have that surgery knowing 2014 was
when I needed to be healthy.
I've always been a bit of a stubbern child, my mom
definitely has her stories of things she had to put
up with me.
I was always very driven and persistent.
When I found things I wanted to do I found a way to
make it work.
And I definitely carried that through into my skeleton
?When you sit down and look at your bronze medal,
what comes to mind, is it the hours and hours of work
or the moment that you captured it, what does come
Yeah I think about all the years, and all the hard
work that's gone into it.
And again talking about the ups and the downs, and
just keeping persistent with everything I needed to
do to be there.
At the same time when I look at this bronze medal
I also think of all of the support I've had from family
and friends who have stayed behind me over the years
and this is just as much theirs as it is mine.
Prairie du Chien's Dousman House will host a homecoming
for Matt Antoine Friday from five to eight.
