Calvin Hulse on Saturday will become just the second
athlete from the Holmen/Onalaska boys swimming program
to ever compete at state.
He said it was his goal
to get to Madison as a freshman...but
missed out by about a half-of-a-second.
This season as a sophomore....he won the sectional
championship in the 50-yard freestyle and is an automatic
Since state is brand new experience...Hulse is doing
his best to prepare for the big stage.
Don't really know what to expect.
Trying to look at pictures and see what the Natatorium
looks like to mentally prepare and kind of visualize
myself behind the blocks.
Last year he did a lot of really, really good things.
And then at the beginning of this year he expressed
to me when we talk about goals saying he wanted to
go to state.
At the 50 Free we looked at it, looked at a couple
of times, figured out where what was needed to go
and halfway through the season he was right about
I didn't feel like I went as fast as I should have
I felt a little bit tired and not everything was lined
up right like I wanted it to be.
But definitely at state one of my goals is to make
the podium and the top eight.
And I think that's possible.
