The FurLow Riders, a university blues-rock band led by University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Chancellor Joe Gow, will perform on Saturday night as part of a welcome ceremony for students.
This fall marks four years since the FurLow Riders took the stage for the first time together.
“Everyone needs to rock and roll now and then,” Chancellor Gow said. He loves being able to let loose after a full day of administrative duties and connect with the community.
The fall shows will kick off with “Chillin’ With the Chancellor” at 8 pm. On Saturday on the Wittich Hall lawn near UW-L’s Hoeschler Tower. The event started as a welcome to new UW-L students, but anyone in the community can stop by.
The band features Chancellor Gow on the electric guitar; UW-L psychology professor Bart VanVoorhis on the drums; UW-L Director of Affirmative Action Nizam Arain on bass; Carmen Wilson, UW-Rock County Dean on keyboard and vocals; and UW-L University Relations Specialist Kjersten Lang on mandolin and vocals.
